Thorntons Success Story
Established in 1911, Thorntons is the number one ‘Chocolate and Confectionary brand’ in the UK with 379 of its own stores and over 200 franchises. It operates a complex multi-channel operation split across four divisions – own stores, franchise, wholesale/commercial and a growing online offering. The company also produces Thorntons and own-branded products for many of the UK’s leading retailers.
Thorntons needed a new IT backbone for its retail operations to allow the company to differentiate better between its retail and commercial sales, and to cater for its strong seasonal and promotions-driven business model, as well as deliver real-time visibility of inventory across its own stores.
Since going live with Aldata Replenishment in 2007, Thorntons now reports it has seen a fall in discounts by 45 per cent, wastage has fallen by 35 per cent on items directly related to best before issues and the business has also benefited from a 13 per cent saving in store personnel hours.
